THE FATE IN OUR HANDS (Part 2)

The Journey to the East was quite long and exhausting for Ali, with many of his associates differing to another route except for Nuru, his newly found Loyalist. But it was worthwhile as the only escape option from public execution and shame back home at Northern Dinga. 3 days on the bumpy humpy ride in a transit truck, at last, they arrived as strangers in a land where their ethnic group is considered a staunch enemy of the people of the East. Welcomed with pleasantries and greetings of the locals there, they murmured back waving their hands. A group of Eastern ‘area boys’ where relaxing at the canteen, with some of them drawing their attention to the 2 new entries. Having ordered and munched on the available banga and Akpu which was quite strange but appetizing, Ali was cleaning his mouth; when he accidentally hit his eyeglass off his eyes to the ground, ...

PANDEMICS AND PANIC

It is important to know that the society of humans is not only a web of invisible/intangible social connections and relationships but of tangible: which implies that we daily witness physical contacts and touches that although are universal, also vary in intensity of our relationships with the individual, group and setting where such social interactions take place. Also, the approach and styles of physical contact and cues in the social interaction process vary across various societies because of the issue of cultural differences.  Nevertheless, it has been noted over centuries that whenever a pandemic strikes (because of the capacity for wide coverage and ability to spread via social interactions) the issue of Panic which is a collective irrational fear-driven response to pandemics is usually the order of the day.  We most actually underestimate how powerful our social interactions and settings are until this disas...

THE SOCIETY AS A CAUSE AND SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF DRUG ADDICTION

BACKGROUND Society is a network of persons interacting within a geographically sovereign area, with unique culture, social institutions, values, Norms, roles, and sanctions governing each other’s behavior. This phenomenon is definitely the basis of individual behavior and personality development as deeply believed by Sociologist. American Sociologist C. Wright mills; stated that to understand the nature of individual behavior, the best context to place the individual is the social context/environment; then we will understand the reasons behind his/her behavioral patterns and the “individual uniqueness” this is the core foundation of his concept of sociological imagination. “ Neither the life of an individual nor the history of a society can be understood without understanding both ” C. Wright Mills (1959). The Society has without a doubt been the platform for the offshoot of great developmental strides: in technology, science, literature, in culture, in globalization, i...
