THE FATE IN OUR HANDS

In the mid 1960s Dinga area, the tension became as steam rising and oozing from boiling water in a kettle, the Just amalgamated newborn in; Dinga was like a baby learning how to walk, however, her case was as one with too many instructors; I could say more than 1 parent dictating the pattern of walk each deem as ideal for the young nation, eventually confusing the tender one.

Ali Balrebe was 25 years old son of a Cleric in Northern Dinga, He had just returned from Academic sojourn in the United States of Alerica, after been schooled on Islamic rudiments from the age of 8 years old in Daure town of Northern Dinga, His father: though a staunch Islamic fundamentalist showed a little soft spot for western innovation and ideals secretly allowed his beloved son a trip to the west for academic enlightenment, a much-forbidden act by the Northern dinga society.

On course, Ali was a student of Peace and conflict studies at the Howard University of Alerica. He gained insight into the rudiments of peace and other important concepts for a better society from his extensive study and research. He met Uche Yumbo (27) an Eastern Dinga, and a civil engineering student of the same university at the Black student association semester gathering. There they got to know of their status as members of the newborn dinga area that was yet internally divisive back in Africa. The president of the black society Demide (24) from Western Dinga was a lively and culturally vibrant lad, who although studying in a white man’s land, didn’t forsake his cultural apparels and values, as he consistently adorned himself in his Agbada and ileke, proving himself as the Son of the Oba of Maayo Land of Western Dinga, With the 3 of them now been renewed in the philosophies of liberal living and notions of human dignity and rights.  Ali had developed strong brotherhood feeling for Uche and Demide in the Spirit of Oneness: a thing of abomination at home, because the amalgamated land was yet to gain it's standing of love and tolerance amongst the formation groups. But has fate would have it these brothers from the 3 distinct tribes and region met in no man’s land and quickly reconsidered on the basis of an enlightened mind.

At the end of their undergraduate academic sojourn overseas, Ali and Uche returned back to the fatherland for Service and Business in the 1960s, While Demide remained for further education.

All was at peace in the Fatherland until one fateful day when power was said to have changed hands through a Coup d'état from the Eastern and Western Dingas, that affected the group which had been appointed caretaker (these are the Northern Dingas) by the Foreign Taskmasters before they left for their homeland. Aggrieved groups became sour bittered towards one another; it was a free for all in all regions. In Northern Dinga where Ali Balrebe hailed from, an ethnic cleansing exercise began against every Eastern and western Dinga member resident in the Northern Sphere Vice-versa in Southern and Eastern Dinga. In Northern Dinga Ali Balrebe’s father Sphere - headed the mission to carry out a massive pogrom against the Eastern and Western Dingas resident in the North, Ali was worried as he knew the great zeal His father had  for the Northern side and His wish for their continued dominance in Government, Ali was drafted into the troop by His father, And was given the task to totally erase the Eastern residents in the Daure area, with His father trusting Him to that side of the task with supporters (Great number of armed locals with the wrong idealism). He pondered on the method of convincing the bloodthirsty troops behind Him, to tell them how they were brothers with the Eastern and Westerners despite inherent differences in culture and appearance. At a junction to the last one about entering the Daure ; residential area of the enterprising Easterners, Ali halted the men asked for a minute to ease himself, and then He went down in prayers to Allah in the bush. He came back to them shortly and sat down on the ground He ordered the men to sit with him; they looked at themselves in utter amazement, others: Humming and murmuring. Then he told them a story of peace, love, and tolerance, reminding them of how beneficial the Eastern Dinga population had been to the North in Economy and trade, and with GOD'S Help, many agreed with Him however Hakeem a notorious fundamentalist, would not,  as he grudgingly refused all that Ali had said and explained in his inner mind.  However, he didn't show it, his plan was to break out from the troop and inform Ali’s father of the Acclaimed Betrayal.

Later Ali led the men into the Eastern Dinga group resident area, but Instead of a massacre, the members were forgiven and told of the plan to exterminate them, and an alternative route out of the Northern Dinga showed to them, that set of Easterners were moved out back to their region. At this time Hakeem had already broke out of the troop silently and gone all the way to the capital to break the news of the betrayal, and he sure did.  While Nuru his friend had become loyal to Ali, he showed respect and honor to Ali because of his new approach to life and living. He briefed Ali on the leaked betrayal information, although Ali and his men were already in danger as their names and pictures where announced and pasted across the capital for public execution for the act of treason.  Ali got to know this, and he immediately planned a runaway mission along with his loyal associates, but the issue was; all Northern members had become identified as enemies both in the West and Eastern Dinga, because of the Massacre been initiated against non-indigent members in the North. Ali’s Life will be in utter danger in either West or East, and to compound issues, he had an indelible Northern Dinga tribal mark on both cheeks along with many of his associates. What Now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nigeria and the “care – free’’ culture

Nigeria and the “care – free’’ culture “Culture” according to Sir E.B Tylor (an anthropologist) is that complex whole that includes Knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits that are collectively acquired by man as member of society. While culture is a beautiful phenomenon that creates a platform for uniqueness and group identity, however, certain behavioral practices stems from dangerous and unpalatable habits of the people and later expands into a full blown culture. Over the years as a result of political shortsightedness and inefficiencies which created economic stagnation and social nuisances, Nigeria according to my philosophy has eventually fit into an analogy of a fleshy human body having its skeletal frame work made of half bones, quarter sticks, with some parts held together by brooms, some by straws, making the country one with a philosophy of a staggering drunkard that stands and fall bedeviled with disappearing and re –...

AFRICAN dictators; Beware!!! It's a new dawn

In the race for progressive societies, the quest for modernity and advancement; the basic form of Government universally agreed and accepted as constituting the most ideal and potent for promoting the platform and umbrella for individual self expression, development, and advancement without repression of any sort Is Democracy; the Government of the people, by the people and for the people according to Abraham Lincoln. It is rather unfortunate that since the attainment of independence by 98% of African nations, many have witnessed democratic - dictatorial regimes, as far stretched as the past can be recollected. This is a paradoxical situation that throws one into some moments of “awe”, from south Sudan’s Omar al – Bashir (28 years rule and counting) to Paul Biya of Cameroon (35 years and still counting), down to Paul Kagame of Rwanda (17 years and still counting) and recently ousted former presidents in Yahyah Jammeh and Robert Mugabe of Gambia and Zimbabwe respectively. The rule ...
